Instant Feedback & Survey Tools

There are a number of great software tools that can make assessing and surveying a group fun, easy, and fast.

Google Forms with g(Math) and Flubaroo Add-ons - Create a quiz or survey using Google Forms.  Use the g(Math) Add-on to allow you to add equations, expressions, and graphs to your quiz and to allow students to respond with them. Use Forms built-in quiz functions, or for more flexibility, use the Flubaroo Add-on on the Google Sheet containing the Form data to make the quiz self-grading.

Plickers - Quick and dirty multiple choice or true/false questions that can include a picture. Students don't need any technology, just a Plicker card with a scannable design that students hold up with the A, B, C, or D side up. Teachers need the Plicker app on their iPhone/iPad or Android device. The app uses the camera to scan the students answer cards and returns whole group and individual results.

Kahoot! - Web-based tool that students can access from any device without an account. Students go to kahoot.it to join your class for the session. Multiple choice questions can have images or videos attached. Great for BYOD (bring your own device). Try the new Team Mode.

Quizizz - A web-based tool for creating fun multiple choice quizzes that students can access without an account. Questions can have images. Works as both a live game or as homework that students can complete at different times. Quizizz now integrates with Google Classroom. Create the quiz in Quizizz and share as an assignment in Google Classroom. Also great for BYOD. 

Socrative - Use the web-based app or the iPad app to create your quiz or survey. Questions can be multiple choice, true/false, or short answer and can include pictures. Students can go to socrative.com or use an iPhone/iPad or Android app to join your class. Another great tool for BYOD. A fun feature of this app is the ability for students to race each other.

Nearpod - Use the web-based app or the iPad app to create an interactive presentation with embedded questions. Add images, video, audio, and more. Then add open-ended questions, polls, quizzes, draw it, fill-in-the-blank, and memory activities. Students can go directly to www.nearpod.com and join your class without needing an account. Another great tool for BYOD. Once students join your presentation, your presentation takes control of their screen and you control the pace. You can also choose to share individual student work and ideas so that it shows on all screens.

Peardeck - The free version allows you to create slide decks with questions that include images and YouTube video with question answers that can be multiple choice, text, or number. The Premium version of this is particularly impressive, but costs $99.95/year. It allows students to respond with draggable elements or drawings which can be over the top of an image (like a graph or map). You can share individual or whole group student work for discussion.

GoSoapBox - Compliment class instruction by providing social Q & A (students can vote up questions), polling, confusion barometer, quizzes (multiple choice and short answer), and student discussion. *Students under 13 should join using a class code, not create their own account, and enter a first name (and initial, if needed), not full name, when joining a class.

Mentimeter - Interactive presentation and survey tool with a variety of survey response formats and a simple quiz function. Gauge the opinions and knowledge of the group. No individual identification. Students join the presentation at www.menti.com to respond.
