This invaluable tool supports collaborative and cooperative working relationships between parents and school staff. For older students, we emphasize the need for the student to develop his/her own report.

ONE COOL EARTH IS AT IT AGAIN!!

PALOMA CREEK

HIGH SCHOOL

"Beautiful beets heading straight from the Paloma Creek garden to the school kitchen. Students at this school get to see the seeds they planted come full circle as mature roots are harvested for nourishing meals!"

"In case you didn't know beets are loaded with benefits to support heart health and brain function and there are so many wonderful ways to enjoy this super food, from savory to sweet."

As expressed by one of the One Cool Earth's Advisor's "Teens at Paloma Creek High School enjoyed garden projects like creating these colorful painted pots. What at first may seem a simple activity, this has offered the teens a much needed outlet. Walking into the classroom, you would have been struck by the quiet concentration as the students were absorbed in this calming activity. And the best part? Once they had completed the project, they have their own garden container they can take home, to brighten their rooms." See more of the wonderful things that One Cool Earth does for our community on their website or Facebook page.

PALOMA CREEK HIGH SCHOOL IS RECOGNIZED AS A MODEL

CONTINUATION HIGH SCHOOL!

State Superintendent Tony Thurmond Announces Model Continuation High Schools for 2022

SACRAMENTO - State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond announced today that 36 schools throughout the state were recognized as Model Continuation High Schools (MCHS) for 2022.

“These model schools provide invaluable resources and academic opportunities to our high-needs students, who often are dealing with difficult life events,” said Thurmond. “Students reap the benefits of social and emotional learning, mentorship programs, student wellness, and restorative justice practices, among other exemplary methods. The efforts of teachers and administrators at our Model Continuation High Schools provide students with the social support, goal-setting, and coping skills that they need to succeed in the academic setting and in their lives after high school.”

Each of the schools honored offer various opportunities for their students to pursue academic and social success. For example, this is what Dr. Libby Madding had shared:

" Paloma Creek High School exists as a fluid and highly responsive educational option for students who are credit deficient, want to accelerate their progress toward graduation work part time, or who desire a more flexible and personalized learning pathway. We recognize that education as a one-size-fits all model is insufficient to meet the learning demands and struggles of today’s youth. Our goal is to use a variety of high tech and low tech resources, along with building strong and caring relationships, to allow students to realize their potential. The whole person approach to learning, coupled with open access to therapeutic care and counseling, allows PCHS students to complete their high school diploma and enter the next phase of their lives prepared for college or career.

We have much to celebrate at Paloma Creek, including our positive school climate, our  flexible learning environments, our partnerships with the community, and our culminating senior capstone. All graduates complete their journey by presenting a portfolio of career materials and explain how they have attained the qualities listed in our district’s Graduate Profile. This culminating event is attended by family, friends, and staff, and is an extremely rewarding experience. Many of our students arrive on our doorsteps with high anxiety, low self esteem, and a bleak view of their future. There is no better feedback and measure of success than to see a once struggling student stand before family and teachers, confidently reflecting on their educational experiences and their future.

At Paloma Creek High School, the true magic happens because of a shared understanding among all staff that each student has their own unique circumstances that has brought them to continuation high school. There is a common belief that every student has a uniqueness that must be embraced, encouraged and considered in all decisions that impact the operations of our program."

  • The 36 schools selected as MCHS retain their designation for three years and will be recognized at the  CCEA Plus 2022 State Conference in Long Beach, California, on May 5–8, 2022.
  • For more information about continuation education, please visit the

CDE Continuation Education web page.
