The Atascadero High School Senior Automotive Class received a set of professional tools as a recognition from the Atascadero Rotary Club!!! Their Automotive teacher, Mr. Tony Renteria is so excited for them.

SAN BENITO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL HAD A BLAST VISITING CAL POLY!

All fourth and fifth grade students from San Benito Elementary got the opportunity to tour Cal Poly's campus before cheering on the Mustang basketball team! Our scholars are more college and career ready, thanks to today’s special experience off campus!

FINE ARTS ACADEMY BROUGHT IN OVER A THOUSAND ITEMS FOR THE FOOD DRIVE!

Students at the Fine Arts Academy have been eagerly participating in a canned food drive to help local families in need this holiday season. Together, the school brought in over 1,000 items thanks to the generosity of students and families. The fifth grade class brought in the most canned food items and delivered everything to the Atascadero Fire Station this morning. Thank you to everyone who helped make holiday tradition continue at FAA!

2021 WINTER WONDERLAND

IN ATASCADERO!

Atascadero's 2021 Winter Wonderland happening on December 10th from 5:00pm - 9:00pm.

This year they have added another 15 tons of snow to make for the largest amount of snow being delivered since the event started over 20 years ago. With 75 tons of snow there will be larger snow pile play areas and will help make way for a massive snow slide with four sled runs (vs. 3) built by Kiwanis Club of Atascadero, Glacier Ice Company of San Luis Obispo and Premier Ag. This year’s snow themed events also include Joe’s Little Train operated by the Elks Club of Atascadero, two Euro bungee jumps, obstacle course, gladiator joust, bounce houses, face painting, and of course, Santa and Mrs. Claus. SANTA'S REINDEER POP-UP FARM

Santa is sending two of his famous reindeers to visit, and they'll be right here in Atascadero, at the Charles Paddock Zoo on December 10th through December 12th from 10:00am until 4:00pm! Thanks to Santa's generosity, these reindeer from the North Pole will be featured with plenty of photo opportunities. HOLIDAY MAGIC AT THE

CHARLES PADDOCK ZOO

The Annual Holiday Magic celebration is back at the Central Coast’s ONLY Zoo! The zookeepers have stepped in as Santa’s Elves to prepare gifts for the animals. Santa will be at the Zoo on Saturday, December 18th to help welcome visitors and deliver gifts to the animals. CDE Partnership with Renaissance Learning Provides Gift of Literacy this Winter!

 

Free Digital Library Access and Books for All CA Students—All Downloaded Content in Next Two Months Can Be Retained

 

As part of State Superintendent Tony Thurmond's literacy initiative, the California Department of Education (CDE) has partnered with Renaissance Learning to ensure that every California student can access thousands of reading resources from December 1, 2021 to January 31, 2022. The myON digital library and news articles in multiple languages can be accessed for free by all pre-K to grade twelve students in California. All books downloaded during the two months are able to be retained and accessed afterwards. Schools are asked to provide the access code to unlock these free resources for students and families.

WINNING THE COUNTY-WIDE DISTRICT INTERNATIONAL

WALK TO SCHOOL TROPHY!!

Way to go AUSD!!!! Our District took home the win and stole the Trophy from San Luis Coastal Unified School District for the County-wide International Walk to School day.

 

Walk to School Day is a global event that involves communities from more than 40 countries walking and biking to school on the same day. The event got its start in 1997 and has become part of a movement for year-round safe routes to school activities. This year over 50 schools participated in San Luis Obispo County.

 

The goal for Safe Routes to School, and by extension Walk to School Day, is to get more children walking and bicycling to school, improve kids’ safety, increase health and physical activity, and reduce traffic congestion and pollution around school zones.

WALK TO SCHOOL TROPHY!!!

On December 01, 2021, Paloma Creek High School received the County High School Trophy for International Walk to School Day. Paloma Creek celebrated the students who walked to school and rode their bikes with treats and prizes and took about 20 students to hike the Bob Jones Trail, in Avila Beach. Last year, Arroyo Grande High School took the title; this year Paloma Creek High School took it from them! They are honored to receive this recognition, and will work to defend it again next year! Way to Go Paloma Creek!!!

ATASCADERO COMMUNITY BAND PRESENTS DONATION TO

ATASCADERO MIDDLE SCHOOL!

Jake Hammer, Director of the Atascadero Middle School instrumental music program, along with some of his band students, were presented with a check for $671.70 on Oct. 26.

The donation from Atascadero Community Band is a result of audience donations collected during the community band’s Rock, Paper, Jazz concert held at the Lake Park bandstand on Sept. 26. The donated funds will be used for some much-needed instrument repairs for Atascadero students. Read the full story in The Atascadero News.

Carrisa Plains Elementary students joined Creston Elementary School for a STEAM Museum. Students participated in hands on learning, centered around science, technology, and engineering!

REVERSE LIGHT PARADE!

Atascadero High School had invited all the other schools in Atascadero Unified School District to join in on the fun for their 2nd Annual Reverse Light Parade! Let's SHINE!

Atascadero High School FFA will be selling Tri-Tip Sandwiches for $8.00, their cart will be mobile along the hill to help keep cars moving during the parade.

LIGHT UP THE DOWNTOWN

HOLIDAY CELEBRATION!

Festivities kick off tonight at 5:30pm in the Sunken Gardens, with the annual countdown to light up Historic City Hall at "Light up the Downtown!"

This year the event will be back to it's normal, in-person celebration with the Fine Arts Academy Honor Choir and Atascadero Community Band performing on the steps of City Hall at 5:45pm, they will be singing your favorite holiday music!

COUNTY SHERIFF'S OFFICE'S BICYCLE GIVEAWAY PROGRAM IN ITS 32ND YEAR!

Since 1989, the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff’s Office has been giving away bicycles during the holiday season. And in that spirit of giving, they are currently seeking donations for the annual Christmas bicycle giveaway.

This program was created to promote the holiday spirit by giving away refurbished bicycles and new helmets to children in need in San Luis Obispo County. For the first time in the school's history, the Atascadero High School Varsity Boys Water Polo team won their home playoff game against Golden West (Visalia, CA) by a score of 11-5! Great job, Greyhounds!

Atascadero High School Girls Water Polo team Coach has selected Annika for their Athlete of the Week. "Junior; Annika scored three goals, had five steals, and one assist to help lead Atascadero to a 7-5 victory over Paso Robles on the Greyhounds Senior Night. FAA staff had a super fun time designing their group costume of 101 Dalmatians too! Students and staff helped build school spirit and all had an awesome time at today's events!

Fifth grade scholars at San Benito Elementary, a STEAM-focused school, were given the following STEAM challenge:

The local pumpkin patch needs your help! They called our school and asked us to build the tallest pumpkin stand for their Haunted Corn Maze. They are trying to save money this year since their crops did not produce as predicted. It is your job to build the tallest stand that will hold a pumpkin for the cheapest price.

ENGINEERING WITH PUMPKINS AT

Mrs. Holland's kindergarten class and their big buddies from Mrs. Witt's 3rd grade class exercising their engineering and critical thinking skills. San Gabriel Elementary, explored making towers, structures, and bridges to hold a variety of pumpkins! The students worked in small groups to draw plans, build their structures, test with the pumpkins, then make their structures even better!

Homecoming 2021 was a GREYt success at AHS this year. Record numbers of students participated in events ranging from dress up days, lunch activities, pep rally, Colony Days Parade, half-time show and the dance.

San Gabriel students had an assembly from Stunt Masters BMX riders. Not only did their tricks impress them, they taught students important character traits such as respect and teamwork!

Halloween fun for all ages as we prepare for another spooktackular evening at the Charles Paddock Zoo! On Saturday, October 23rd the gates open at 5 pm and the fun continues until 8:30 pm.

 

Get your best costume ready and bring the entire family out to a not-too-scary evening at Zoo Boo! You can expect Halloween decorations throughout the Zoo along with Carnival games, Halloween activities, a Haunted House and tricks & treats to enjoy!

IN HONOR OF FIRE PREVENTION WEEK!

In honor of Fire Prevention Week, Atascadero Fine Arts Academy's Fourth graders took a walking Field Trip to their neighborhood Fire Department: The Atascadero Fire Department. After the students practiced how to stay safe in a fire, they had the opportunity to test out the equipment and get sill with the firefighters!

OCTOBERS STEAM CHALLANGE

San Benito ACE Program's October STEAM Challenge options included a pumpkin catapult! This scholar constructed his launcher and used acorns instead of cany pumpkins, as they have plenty of them around their house during this time of the year.

ADVENTURE PASS FOR FOURTH GRADERS

89 Seniors earned an Academic Letter, for their good grades during the Spring Semester last year. They were honored at the Fall Ceremony on Wednesday evening. An Academic Letter may be awarded three times to Juniors and Seniors who earn a 3.75 GPA or higher, 1st and 2nd semester Junior year and 1st semester Senior year. The first award is a Lamp Icon on a Varsity Letter, the second is a Chevron and the third is a Pin.

2021 HOMECOMING COURT

Atascadero High School student body voted to choose their 2021 Homecoming Court. They held a crowning ceremony at lunch last Friday. The final Senior Royalty will be announced at the Homecoming game tonight, Friday, October 8th.

"WALK TO SCHOOL DAY!"

Some fun pictures of AUSD students joining in the fun of walking and biking to school. On October 6th it was "International Walk to School Day." Lots of families Laced up their tenny's and joined in on the fun! Schools with the most creative implementation will defend or steal a title trophy in the Walk to School Day Challenge.

SAN BENITO SCHOLARS!

All tk-5th grade San Benito scholars participated in our first annual monthly Bengal Bonanza last week. The challenge: build the tallest tower you can with only two newspapers and 3 feet of masking tape.They only had seven minutes and our tallest tower was over 6 feet tall! #BengalsGoSTEAM

'Congratulations to Paloma Creek High School students who had the opportunity to play basketball in a Continuation School Tournament and came off victorious. Their proud principal, Libby Madding, was there to cheer them on'.

ONE COOL EARTH AT SAN BENITO ELEMENTARY SCHOOL

Students at San Benito's garden club harvested lots of veggies this past week! "Is chard good in an omelet?" one student asked. After their garden educator told them that, indeed, chard is wonderful in omelets, the kids began boasting about the delicious omelets they'd make as they loaded up on garden-fresh bounty.
