HEALTH SCIENCE 1 (Introduction to Health)
Health Science 1 is a semester long introduction to health designed to provide students with the knowledge to develop and implement sound health attitudes and actions that lead to a life of wellness. It includes a general introduction to the concepts of health and anatomy including: first aid and safety; mental health, nervous systems, personality, esteem and emotions; social health, family relationships, peer relationships, and communication skills; food and nutrition, digestion and excretions systems; fitness, muscular and skeletal systems, respiratory systems, movement and coordination, and personal care; facts about substance abuse; and disease prevention including heart disease, cancer, and diabetes.
Note: Two semesters of Health (Health 1 and either Health 2 or Health 3) are required for graduation.

HEALTH SCIENCE 2 (Wellbeing & Driver Education)
Health Science 2 is a semester long course focusing on the student’s wellbeing, personal responsibility regarding our health and wellness. Topics include Internet and media safety; mental health, managing stress and mental disorders; social health, conflict resolution, mediation, violence prevention and community health; and substance abuse, personal prevention, limit setting, boundaries and refusal skills; and personal responsibility. This course includes the Driver’s Education component required for obtaining a driver’s license in the state of California.
Prerequisite: Health 1
Note: Two semesters of Health (Health 1 and either Health 2 or Health 3) are required for graduation.

HEALTH SCIENCE 3 (Junior/Senior Health)
Health Science 3 is a semester long project- and discussion-based course designed for juniors and seniors who desire to apply health and wellness concepts. Topics include finances, loans, credit, debt, college financing, interview skills and career options; college applications and letters; practical skills geared toward student interests in the areas of household chores and maintenance tasks; mental health, wellbeing, core values, esteem development, intrinsic vs. extrinsic goals, and mental illness; social health, social media evaluation, relationship-building skills, conflict resolution and refusal skills; human development, reproduction and contraception; nutrition and fitness, designing a personal workout and dietary plan, and evaluate the personal and financial costs of such a plan; substance abuse and addiction; and disease prevention, various diseases, and leading causes of death.
Prerequisite: Health 1
