Measure B: School Facilities Bond

When will Measure B be voted on?

Measure B will be on the ballot this coming election cycle.  Vote by mail ballots will come to voters in October and in person Election Day is November 5.  The measure requires 55% approval to pass.

 

How much will Measure B cost our taxpayers?

Measure B will increase property taxes by less than $46 per $100,000 assessed value.  

 

What will we use Measure B funds for?

The bond funds will be allocated for the construction, modernization, renovation, or improvement of school facilities within the Atascadero Unified School District. This includes furnishing, equipping, and potentially acquiring or leasing property for school purposes. The funds will not be used for any other purposes, such as teacher or administrator salaries or other operating expenses.

 

The types of projects that Measure B can be used to fund include, but are not limited to:

  • Renovating vocational and career technical education classrooms and facilities
  • Expanding classrooms and workshops for robotics, coding, engineering, woodworking, graphic design and computer programming
  • Providing Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STEAM) classrooms and labs
  • Improving campus safety by installing emergency communication systems and alarms
  • Creating greater accessibility to classrooms, restrooms, walkways and playgrounds for those with disabilities
  • Repairing and replacing inefficient heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems
  • Replacing deteriorating portable classrooms
  • Updating classroom technology, networks and infrastructure
  • Installing point of entry access, security cameras and additional lighting
  • Modernizing school cafeterias, kitchens, and multipurpose rooms

 

Are there other projects that can improve our campuses that we can utilize Bond funds for?

Yes, in addition to those high priority projects Measure B funds can also be used for the following types of projects:

  • Repairing and replacing leaky roofs and plumbing
  • Renovating and repairing aging classrooms and facilities
  • Replacing aging wiring and electrical systems

 

How will the district partner with the community to ensure responsible stewardship of Bond dollars?

The district is committed to transparency in their fiscal management.  Specific taxpayer assurances for Measure B include full disclosure of all expenditures by the district and an independent Citizens Oversight Committee (COC) will review and report all bond expenditures.

 

Can Measure B funds be taken and used elsewhere?

Measure B funds can not be taken by the State for any reason.  Spending of Measure B funds must remain aligned to improving and enhancing school facilities.  In addition, Measure B funds will qualify for State matching funds allowing the district to expand their scope without impacting the general fund.
